December 2010

Where did my little girl go?  The Christmas through the eyes of a 2 1/2 year old is amazing!  Grace got her holiday excitement from her mom by far.  A few quotes from Grace this month include, "It is Christmastime not Christmas Day, so we can not open presents."  When she hears someone say "Merry Christmas" her immediate response is "Happy New Year."  In regards to the guy in the red suit she says, "Momma, I like Santa but I don't want to talk to him."

We kicked the month off with the Angel Band performance.  We should have just celebrated Christmas that day.  Rich and I both had tears in our eyes after that performance along with the rest of the audience.  It was a good thing the fire marshal didn't show up at Canterbury because I am sure we all surpassed the maximum capacity of the room the performance was in.  There were moms, dads, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles and anyone who wanted to see a good show.  The performance lineup included, "Angels Singing We Are Here," "This Little Light of Mine,"  "Where Do You Start the Letters," "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."  Grace loved every moment of being in the starlight.  She's got her dad's performing abilities.
The Program

Ready for the show to begin.

The songs even had motions.  These 2-year olds are good!

"Is this is the top, top, top?  No it's the bottom."

Dance Break
This month also brought the first snowfall and we've got a girl who loves the snow.  She and her dad have already built two snowmen.  The only obstacle we face is making it home  from Miss Nancy's before it gets dark so we can play outside a little.

Emmy has been working on new jammies for Grace.  She is set for the Winter with 4 pairs of new flannel jammies.  Our struggle is not wanting to take them off the next morning and wanting to wear them to school.
Spot the Dog jammies. The favorite ones by far.
We continued our holiday tradition of going to Coney Island and to see the Santa on the bank building.  This year Uncle Chris joined us.  It was fun to have him along because every memory I have of a childhood Christmas involves my family's annual trip to Coney Island to see the Santa.  Grace enjoyed her hotdog and the chance to visit with the packed restaurant of people.

Finally it was Christmas( we spend Christmas Eve with my parents, Christmas morning/day at our house letting Grace be Grace and Christmas afternoon Grandma/Grandpa Dickmeyer and Uncle David came over to celebrate).  This was the first year that Grace understood Christmas so we had fun!  She was a typical 2 year old.  She tossed the clothes aside and kept looking for the clothes.  She likes Santa but does not want to talk to him.  She requested that I call Santa and ask him to leave her present at the front door because she didn't want him to scare her coming inside the house.  Santa did just as he was told.
Matching aprons to bake in.

A cleaning cart.  The tile in our bathroom has never shined so bright.

Santa did just as he was told.

Diapers for her baby doll from Santa
The day after Christmas Grace finally got to meet Baby Caroline.  Rich and I headed to the hospital Christmas Evening at 9:30 and Caroline arrived the next morning at 6:43am.  Check out The Caroline Chronicles for more details.  Grace is in love with Caroline and a definite Mother Hen in the making.

Uncle Chris was in charge of Grace while Mom and Dad stayed at the hospital.

I'm hoping to keep up with both blogs in the future.  As for now I have to figure out how to take care of two girl, finish a masters degree and teach 1st grade so forgive me for any tardiness that occurs.

See you next month on or near the 3rd.
